A Modern Approach to Solo Piano for Pop/Rock/Jazz Musicians

Made for musicians

This ain't a dry old "chords in the left, melody in the right" approach - Lead Sheet 101 is a modern approach to voicing chords, applying comping techniques, and adding juicy chord extensions.

Simplification: Right off the bat students are taught to not be scared of the complicated chords - we work out how to simplify even a Db13(#5) down to it's simplest parts.

Chord Voicing: Learn how to support a melody using root notes and 5ths in the left hand, before adding 3rds, 7ths and sus's to the right hand. Then once those basics are down pat snag a few cheeky methods to add in extra juicy chord tones (9's, 11's and 13's) without doin' the maths

Rhythms and Comping Patterns: Common contemporary rhythms including simple rhythms, syncopation using clave beats, adding flow, and inner/outer

All introduced step by step: you'll learn the root note approach before learning a simple rhythm, then add the 5th before taking on flow, get the 3rd in place and add some syncopation, then add that 7th and figure out outer/inner.

THEN: learn a few cheeky little chord hacks to really juice up your sound.

Lead Sheet 101 is 225 pages of absolute gold - it's the book we wish we'd had as young musicians.
